Founded in 2024, Maleina was born out of a need to create effective, natural hair care products using the powerful botanicals of East Africa. Our formulations combine tradition and science, delivering hair care solutions that truly nourish and transform. Maleina is a registered limited company in Uganda and is proud to be a member of the Uganda Small Scale Industries Association (USSIA) and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurs Association Limited (UWEAL).
As a women-owned brand, Maleina is committed to empowering and uplifting fellow women in business, with a special focus on women producers. We proudly source 80% of our ingredients from women-owned suppliers, ensuring that every product you use supports a network of talented, entrepreneurial women.

Meet the Founder
Selam Emiru, the visionary behind Maleina, holds a Bachelor’s in Computer Science and a Master’s in Business Information Technology. She spent years working in management consulting and various IT and project management roles before turning her passion for hair care into a business.
Prior to launching Maleina, Selam created an online hair quiz platform that used technology to provide personalized hair care advice and product recommendations, helping individuals understand their hair needs more effectively. Drawing from her professional expertise and personal hair journey, Selam founded Maleina to deliver natural, potent, and effective hair care products while also creating opportunities for women producers across Uganda.
Her vision goes beyond beauty—Selam aims to build a brand that empowers women, supports sustainable sourcing, and inspires communities through quality, ethical, and impactful business practices.
